Neighbourhood marketing

Oberhausen’s effort to redefine itself by replacing its industrial heritage and become a modern service centre and popular destination for shopping and recreational activities in the region has resulted in sustainable change for the structure of the individual neighbourhoods.

The scope of the City Marketing unit of Tourismus- & Marketing Oberhausen GmbH (TMO) encompasses providing professional consulting and support to the individual neighbourhoods for developing new strategies and in the operative area.

Within the framework of cooperation agreements, specific measures are being developed and implemented with local actors to establish and strengthen the image of the individual neighbourhoods over the long term.

On 1 September 1999 a cooperation agreement for Oberhausen’s city centre was signed by the TMO and the CityO.-Management, the special interest group comprising proprietors, service providers and retailers in the city centre. An integral part of this service agreement envisages the TMO handling city management. Based on the cooperation agreement, the head of TMO’s City Marketing unit serves as the city manager for the city centre.
