Sterkrader Tor
A shopping centre with a sales area of approx. 15,000 sq. m and 580 parking spaces is being constructed at the pedestrian zone in Oberhausen’s Sterkrade neighbourhood. City and investors are focussing on variety to complement and strengthen the retail stores already available. The range is completed by additional recreational, entertainment and service oriented facilities. Implementation is scheduled for 2006 once Oberhausen’s Chamber for Industry and Commerce gives a favourable response.

Garten DOM
The so-called GartenDOM accommodated the halls and special shows of the 1999 Regional Garden Show held in Oberhausen. Afterwards, the spectacular light-flooded dome structure, which enjoys great popularity among architects as the largest column-free laminated wood beam construction in Europe, was used as a garden centre and subsequently as an exhibition hall for the “Body Worlds” exhibit. The hall has a floor space of approx. 5,800 sq. m and a dizzying height of 41 meters. On the whole, the GartenDOM encompasses a total area of approx. 22,000 sq. m at the edge of an attractive local recreation area. Based on its layout, the DOM is ideal for exhibits and accommodating sports, recreational and spa facilities.
Future plans are focussing on a use for archery enthusiasts and hunters.

Marina development
Directly connected to the attractions in the Oberhausen Neue Mitte is the Oberhausen Marina, a harbour for sports boats with 70 moorages. In the Capital of Culture Year, from 1 May to 26 September 2010, the boats of the Baldeney White Fleet will also regularly be landing here to start boat trips to the Nordsternpark in Geldenkirchen. The passengers will be able to enjoy the art projects "KulturKanal" (Culture Canal) and "Emscherkunst" (Emscher Art) along the Rhine-Herne canal.
Yachts that are not deeper than 2.5 meters can drop anchor at the circumferential quay wall and floating pontoons. The modern facility will soon offer a maritime ambience both for water enthusiasts and “lubbers” and good boat service. At one end, the marina will accommodate the Sea Life Aquarium, the largest freshwater and saltwater aquarium in Germany. During the second phase of development, office and business premises for restaurants, catering outlets, boutiques and cafes will evolve at the Hafenpromenade.

Gewerbepark Kaisergarten
Of the approx. 200,000 sq. m of commercial space available, a good three quarters have already been sold to more than 40 enterprises representing a broad range of sectors. This, in turn, has secured or created about 800 jobs due to relocation. Emphasis is being placed on attracting service and trade enterprises as well as companies with unobtrusive production to establish themselves. The Gewerbepark Kaisergarten or Kaisergarten Business Park ensures quick autobahn access (A 516 and A 42 are only 1.5 kilometers away). It is also served by the local public transport system and is only 2 kilometers from Oberhausen’s main train station. For more information:
